The Photo-Heart Connection

It's Valentine's Day and that has me thinking about L-O-V-E and, in particular, about the photos I love.

The ones I love most are the photos that speak to my heart.  In discussing what she calls the "photo-heart connection", Kat Sloma of Kat Eye Studio says:

". . . it's not the strength of the image, in purely aesthetic terms, that matters in this process.  It's not the date of capture, it's not the composition, it's not technical perfection. It's the strength of the heart connection. It's what you can learn about yourself, through the photos that speak to you."

The moment I captured in the photo above is of my son and his daughter. Does this photo speak to my heart? You bet it does! My son's hands that only yesterday were dribbling a basketball  (or so it seems), now holding the tiny feet of his brand-new baby girl, the heart-shape his hands make and, if you look closely enough, the tiny piece of pink lint between the toes on her right foot -- it just makes me melt! This image speaks to my heart and soul and definitely qualifies as making the photo-heart connection for me and I will feel the same way about it years from now.

Are you making that "photo-heart connection"? What images have you taken that make your heart sing? We'd love for you to share them, either in words or by linking to your photo. You can make your link clickable by following the directions in the right side bar where it says "How to make your link clickable in a Blogger comment."

Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

L-O-V-E this photo! It does indeed speak to the heart and from a technical standpoint, it has a lot going for it too: composition, exposure, etc. But its strength is indeed in its photo-heart connection. The photo I shared on my post yesterday is a photo-heart connector for me. If I think of more, I'll be back later today to post. L-0-V-E to you this Valentine's Day, my friend! <3

Your photo certainly has the heart connection! How could you resist sweet, little baby toes? And the fact that it is your granddaughter....even better!! For me, making the photo heart connection is what I search for in all my shots. It doesn't always happen, but when it does, there's something extra special about the photo. Thanks for a great little message today!

Terri,
This is the BEST Valentine's Day photo I've ever seen! It's so much better than the store manufactured "moments" and does go directly to my heart. Your words do as well - the time from basketball to adulthood so fleeting. To have taken this photo shows us how very big YOUR heart is. It's just really wonderful!

Such a great shot! The best part is you took the picture! You know those hands, your know those tiny toes! It's a treasure for everyone!
I love it when a picture makes my heart sing. Sometimes you just know it before you snap the shot.
I'm sure this picture will continue to make hearts sing for generations!

Hi Terri, I found you! Still miss the Picture Winter class but this lovely blog will keep me going. The hands and feet form such a wonderful gesture and it takes me right back to when my children were small......sigh.

Ah, when I saw it...my heart skipped a beat. It absolutely touched my heart, so I cannot imagine how it must have touched yours. Absolutely wonderful....beautiful, fresh, and so many things to think about when looking at those two entwined.

The perfect heart/photo connection! I do have a heart photo that I recently took and edited in the Jana Morton Blending class, which I am loving! This photo of Scott and baby is a beautiful moment in time, which will pass too soon but thankfully you have frozen it forever. What a special gift you have!
