Finding Fall

I am so excited about our theme for this month, Sunshine and Shadows! I think it is going to inspire a lot of us to capture the beauty of this wonderful month of October, wherever we live.

Although I'm sure most of you are well into fall, here in the desert we don't get a lot of fall color and that makes  it necessary to take a little road trip to capture some. All of the photos in this  post were taken at my favorite place for fall shooting, Westfork Canyon, Sedona, Arizona. I try to get up there every year and just soak up the beauty of fall.

I thought it might be fun to add a little music to  my post today, so I created a slide show of sunshine and shadow photos and added my favorite "sunshine" song of the moment. If you click on HD, you will be able to view the video in HD and if you want to view it in full screen, click on the four little arrows to the right of HD.  Enjoy!

Make sure to share your sunshine and shadow photos with us in our Flickr group and join in the fun this month. I can hardly wait to see everyone's contributions! Remember that we will be choosing one photo each week for our In Focus selection -- maybe it will be yours!

Oh, Terri! This makes me miss our "Time Capsules" class. I am going to watch it again when I get home from work. PROMISE ME you'll do some videos/stills combos from "Oasis." Pretty please. Sugar on top. Thanks for this heartening start to the day.

Terri - Great job. Great pics.Great color.I forget what happened with the time capsule class. I was going to sign up and somehow never did. I'll have to research that and get on it because this looks like so much fun to do! The pics are glorious. Damn - I have the day off and its pouring here!! I was planning on hiking the gorge today - but its not in the cards.Im going to pay bills ;( No, maybe not - that's just too much of a turn....
But I digress - I feel like I hiked the gorge with you, anyway - thanks for a great start to me day - Love this. BTW I stuck a note on our fb page about this song. Alyssa is the daughter of friends of mine! I'd love to send them your vimeo!

Terri, I agree with Pam, do the same thing with your pics from Oasis - pllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease! (not at all said in a whiney voice!) :) I sure wish I could go to this area with you. I think I've mentioned before how much I fell in love with the Sedona area a few years ago. I'm sure I wasn't in this area, but it looks gorgeous. Happy song to wake me up!

OK - I just watched again and realized the irony! Here I am complaining about the rain .....I need TO MAKE MY OWN SUNSHINE , like the song says!

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!! I love doing slides shows, haven't tried much video yet. If this slide snow doesn't inspire us to make our own sunshine ... nothing will.

Just gorgeous!!

Yes, am definitely planning on capturing some video at Oasis and putting it together with some stills and will be sure to share the end result. Glad this started off your day with some "sunshine"!

Carol, if you ever get the chance to take Xanthe's "Time Capsules" class, do it! It is so amazing! Sorry about your rain. Hope it clears and you can get out and do some shooting. Glad at least I brought a little sunshine to your day!

This is really delightful Terri! When I saw the riverbed, I had to smile. I was out yesterday on a similar kind of shoot but in a very different part of the world. You sure have tall trees there ;-)
http://sherrygaley.wordpress.com/2012/10/09/a-river-runs-through-it/ Balancing my tripod on rocks in the river...it was quite a sight. And then just today I was thinking that I wanted to put Sedona on my list of places to travel to...And the great song...all wonderful.

I'm planning on it and will be sure to share so that I can get the rest of you to come next year!

Thanks, Dotti! Yes, they are so much fun. It's amazing how a little movement and music can make the photos shine. Glad you were inspired!

So sorry you've not feeling well, Kim, but I'm happy I was able to bring you a little sunshine. Glad you enjoyed it.

Oh, my sweet friend, I'm so glad this brought a smile to your face!

Yes, that Time Capsule class was amazing, wasn't it? Glad you are inspired by my video and I'll look forward to seeing yours!

terriporter said...

So glad you enjoyed my video, Sherry! Yes, I think Sedona should be on everyone's "must visit" list! No place else like it in the world. I can just see you balancing your tripod on the rocks in the river! What we won't do to get the shot, right?

heyjudephotography said...

I agree! I'm hoping it's going to be where my retirement home is! Love it!

Deanna said...

well this was just too fun...looking at your delightful pictures of Sedona, one of my favorite places, and listening to that delightful song at the same time, put sunshine into my life. You will have to give us lessons at Oasis, I have yet to take video or even to look at making a video...just so much to learn, so little time. Love!!

terriporter said...

I totally flunked the video taking that I had planned when we were at the beach but I want to try again at Oasis. If you're just doing a slide show of stills, that's easy enough and I can show you how. Once I have some decent video, I need to go back to my notes from the Time Capsules class to remember how to do it. I love them, though, and really want to get good at doing the combination of stills and video to music. Xanthe is a MASTER at it -- she's the one who should be teaching us at Oasis!

terriporter said...

Thanks, my friend! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm sure you have wonderful color up in your mountains, so get up there and take some shots to share with us!

terriporter said...

Can't even imagine living where there aren't any mountains nearby! Don't forget we'll be taking the tram up the mountain at Oasis, so that should help your mountain withdrawal!

Gorgeous Terri! Love the video...and the song is perfect :)

terriporter said...

Thanks, Dawn! So glad you stopped in to visit.

So happy you paid us a visit Susan and that it added some joy to your day! You just can't listen to that song and not be smiling, right?

terriporter said...

So glad to see you here, Jody, and I'm happy you enjoyed the post. Yes, a very happy song indeed!
