Happy Thanksgiving!

Today, in the US, we will be stuffing ourselves celebrating Thanksgiving.  Before the day is over, this table will be filled with all kinds of food but most importantly, the room will be full of laughter and life and people that I love dearly.

I can't wait!

We want to thank you all for all the support and encouragement you have shown us! Stopping by and reading the blog and leaving kind and thoughtful comments means so much to each one of us.

...

For a lot of us this means there will be friends and relatives from near and far joining us. There will be cooking and merriment and general shenanigans that are begging to be caught on camera! I hope you keep your camera close! Here are a few tips to capture some memories of the day.

Since the focus of Thanksgiving is the dinner be sure to get a few candid shots of the cooks and helpers. People tend to congregate in the kitchen, be sure to have your camera with you when you join them!

Group shots around the table are great! Take one before everyone is seated if possible as Thanksgiving tables tend to be beautifully decorated! And it's a good time to set your white balance. Dining rooms will typically be lit by tungsten light but fire a couple of test shots to be sure.

Once everyone is seated, it's a good time to get a group shot. I suggest using a tripod and a remote or timer so you can be part of the picture! Take a number of shots to be sure everyone has their eyes open!

Sometimes you will see a not to be missed shot at the table. Try to clear as many distracting elements as possible away from your subject so your subject will be prominently featured.

Don't be afraid to be a director! Pose people for some shots!

When lighting gets to be a factor-turn on as many lights as possible and adjust your white balance and up the ISO. Use the flash but watch out for mirrors and glass that will make bounce back the flash and make those ugly spots in your shots!

But most importantly-get in some shots yourself!

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."
~John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Only a few more days of November to add your gratitude shots to the galleries! Go here and here!
