It's A New Dawn

by Terri

“It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me, and I’m feelin’ good.”
From “Feeling Good” by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley

As soon as Christmas is over, I find myself looking forward to the start of the new year, to new beginnings. It’s wonderful that we have this time at the beginning of each year to start over, to begin again, to leave things in the past and to look to the future.

One of the things I decided at the start of 2014 was that I wanted to be more “in the moment”, to treasure the now, to celebrate the everyday moments. And I want to continue that with this new year that is about to start. Photography has helped me to really notice all the beauty around me and I want that to carry over to noticing and celebrating all of the good things in my life.

For me, focusing on all the good things I have to be grateful for helps me push the not-so-good things into the background, to stress less and enjoy more.  As this year draws to a close, take some time to reflect on the past year and to make a promise to yourself to treasure each moment in the coming year. If you haven’t done it in the past, make 2015 the year you focus on the good in your life and celebrate every day.

Thank you all for sharing your “season of light” photos with us during December. They have warmed my heart and added so much beauty to our FOL Flickr gallery. Be sure to check back on January 1 to see what our new monthly focus will be.  And an extra special thank you to all of you for sharing this space with us. We appreciate the time you take out of your day to join us here. Here’s to a happy and creative New Year!

So well put, Terri. Yes, the sense of beginning again as the New Year comes to us. One of the traditions I have been part of a few times is to have a small bonfire going and further from it, a pile of unlit wood stacked to be lit. At 11:00 PM people write on papers all the things they wish to let go of and put them into the old year's fire. At midnight, the new fire is lit. It's powerful to take part it and easy to do. Heck, we could do it in a double sink if we turn the smoke detector off (not really, but you know, like a tiny fire pit in the yard or something). Being present is all we have. It really is. It is the most important thing. Thank you for this post.

Well written Terri. Actually, each and every day offers the opportunity to begin again - if we would only recognize it. Happy New Year!

It sounds so easy, doesn't it? ... to be more 'in the moment'. But in reality, it can be tricky. But it is a laudable goal and one I aspire to as well. Love Carol's reminder that every day offers the opportunity to begin again. Life, it seems, is a series of beginnings. And that's a good thing!

I like this time of ending and beginning anew. Taking stock of what was, and setting intentions for the New Year. Being in the moment has been one of my goals for years, and I'm making slow progress. Beautiful image!

Wow, Pam (AFishGirl) said it so perfectly....being present is all we have. I'm getting better and better at this, but it takes work with all life's distractions. Love your photo here too Terri.
