Connections

Connections.
The anniversary of September 11 connects us all. Back to "THE" day. The question we similarly ask ourselves or in conversations, "where were you?"

Thinking how total strangers will be forever connected to a moment in time, or how this event connected and filled our hearts with patriotism.

As you all know by now, the theme of the month is "CONNECTIONS". This was a perfect choice. One that has put me thinking in ways that I haven't in some time.

Connections are simple and yet enormous and complex all at the same time.

As many of you know I have the opportunity to work in numerous hospitals photographing day old babies and often times their connected loves of their lives. The joy of the new born is palpable. The smiles the most sincere.

One neighbor planted these flowers so that passers by could connect with mother nature and see its beauty, yet if you will notice a small white ribbon on the young tree, you will see a subtle memorial to a young child who passed away just a block away. Nothing screaming or flamboyant, but a kind gesture that connected the hearts who moarn his loss.

Sweetly connected for ever...
And then I just couldn't resist.
Songwriters: WILLIAMS/ASCHER

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard
and answered when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing
and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell. We know that it's probably magic.

Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors.
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Claudia, This is a beautiful post. I am always so in awe of your hospital photographs - I wish you had been there when I had my children - what a treasure for these young parents.
I had not heard this Mrantz song - and I don't think I ever really took in the lyrics back in my Sesame Street days, but it is also just wonderful, and perfect for our theme.
For some reason, looking at your baby photos and listening to these words just makes me very teary this morning after 9/11.That day is especially poignant in our area, as everyone I know has a connection to someone lost. Thank you for soothing our souls.

Heading out the door in about 10 minutes for a bit of vacation but wanted to pop in here to echo Carol's thoughts about the newborn photos. The newborn photos of my daughter and granddaughter are nothing like the art that you're creating for your families. Good work, Claudia! Keep it up.

Rainbow Connection has always been one of my favorite songs ... thanks for putting it back in my head ... I'll be humming all day long!

:-D

Fantastic series of photos. I remember the song from when my children watched Sesame Street, but I've never really listened to the words. Wonderful post.

Beautiful and heartfelt post, Claudia! Your newborn photography makes me wish too that I had photos like that when my children were born. What a treasure they must be for the families! And I remember "Rainbow Connection" vividly! Had forgotten about it but now, like Dotti, it will be in my head all day. Thanks for the memory!
