Art and Nature

I actually had another post planned for today, but when my husband and I headed out yesterday for our anniversary getaway, we stopped at a place so wonderful I just had to share it with all of you.  And, conveniently, there was plenty of sun, and plenty of shadows to go along with our theme this month.

We visited The Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, NY. From the moment we drove up the long tree-lined driveway I was in sensory overload! The fall colors were at their peak, the skies were a deep blue, with puffy white clouds, and everywhere I looked there was something amazing to see. I told my husband we'd only make a quick trip through so I could get a feel of the place, and then come back on another day when we weren't trying to get to another destination.  We left three hours later!

They call this a sculpture garden, but that is definitely an understatement. This is a 500 acre garden, with monumental sized sculptures. Since I am trying to type with a big bandage on one finger due to a knife/finger collision while washing up some dishes before we left, I am going to let the photos do most of the talking today. You can see the play of light and shadows in each of these shots.

This one just boggles the mind, doesn't it?

This one gave me that "yin-yang" feel.

Being a nature photographer I was pleased at how they incorporated all of the sculptures into the beautiful surroundings.

Sometimes the shadows were more interesting than the sculpture itself.

This one made me smile.

If you're interested in seeing more of the sculptures from the Art Center, you can visit my personal photo blog at hey jude photography.

And finally, because the colorful part of fall is coming to an end, at least here in New York, I'm leaving you with a few fall splendor photos. Just because....

oooooooo...

ahhhhh....

mmmmm.....

I hope you're enjoying our theme this month. Please continue to post your sunshine and shadows photos in our Focusing on Life flickr group.  Happy Fall!

Wonderful sculptures, and I love your fall photos! Hope the storm (Sandy) doesn't come your way and disturb the beauty of fall! Stay safe and prepared...just in case!

This is going on my list for sure...already did a map quest for directions and it's about an hour and 40 minute drive...yeah! With this storm we are preparing for on the east coast there may be no leaves left so I may have to wait for spring but it certainly looks like it will be worth the wait. Thanks so much for sharing and for the inspiration! Hope you had a wonderful anniversary.
