A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

by Deanna

The quote,”A picture is worth a thousand words,” could not be any clearer than when you visit a city as picturesque as Charleston, SC.  I have very recently returned from this astonishing, beautiful and historic city, spending a week drinking (and eating) in it’s heart-flutteringly gorgeous surroundings.  My last post was mostly writing with few images, this time it will be mostly images and fewer words.

This city is filled with so much history and is so unique in it's architecture and heritage.  Where sweet tea and shrimp is on every menu....

wrought iron, old brick and front porches are everywhere....

colorful homes in every color of the rainbow

Old churches with tall steeples tower over the neighborhoods....

Old cemeteries and graveyards are scattered throughout the city.....(and fyi....graveyards are those that are part of the church grounds, cemeteries are stand-alone entities, just a little trivia for your appearance on Jeopardy....giggle)

And ofcourse the flowers....oh it made my heart happy to see blooms again after the long winter.....

I fell in love with the Spanish Moss that entangles and hangs in every tree and bush around, adding that extra bit of texture. I wonder if their feelings for Spanish Moss are the same as I feel about dandelions...go away...and yes, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Beautiful birds.....

Can't forget the plantations....

Or the swamps that had alligators just a little bit too close for comfort.....

An early morning at the beach where the sun came up in all of it's glory....

And when it was all over, I was dog tired....but having this love of photography, I can re-visit this amazing place over and over again thru my photographs, and it is true, a picture is worth a thousand words.

So glad you found color in Charleston, looks wonderful truly beautiful. Love the dog tired as I imagine you were. The Lady Banks Rose tangled with the Spanish Moss is so good. Love these Deanna.

I've never been to Charleston, but by the looks of it, with the exception of a few photos, I felt like I was here on the gulf coast. These are so wonderful, and I love, love your beach shot with that sunburst!! So glad you had a good time, and good weather.

Oh, my, I'm afraid words cannot describe the amazing beauty you have captured! Every shot is a masterpiece! I knew I wanted to visit this beautiful city already but now I'm ready to call Southwest and book a flight! It looks like a place that has everything I love -- the beach, the old and colorful buildings, the flowers. Thanks so much for sharing all this beauty with us. We NEED to plan a trip here!

You have done Charleston proud, Deanna! Beautiful, beautiful work. Charleston is one of my all-time favorite places. Almost every year for the past 30 years, we have taken a family beach vacation at Kiawah Island, just south of Charleston. Frequent trips into Charleston to shop, dine, walk ... and for me ... take photos ... is on our agenda more than once! And to Terri - Nodding my head in full agreement on the trip!! {wink, wink}

Absolutely perfect assortment of pictures. You really caught the character of the city. I was in Charleston years ago and barely remembered it. So glad to see these shots.
