Why it matters . . .

by Kim

"Make visible what, without you, might perhaps never have been seen." - Henri Cartier -Bresson

There have been so many wonderful posts, and so many beautiful photos shared in our Flickr group and I'm a little sorry to see the month end. But just because the theme is ending, doesn't mean we should forget the importance that our actions have, EVERYDAY, on our beautiful planet.

The little girl in the photo is my neighbor and can I just tell you how much I love sharing my "garden friends" with her. I mean what's not to love about participating in the joy and excitement of a child learning and experiencing first hand about nature.

In fact, I believe one of the most important things we can do is to get our future generations on board by instilling that love of earth and nature in our children and grandchildren. To let them know that the consequences of all of our actions are far reaching, not just for them, but for everyone. . .and everything.

We are losing species of plants and animals along with their habitats at an alarming rate. Just in the rainforest alone, 80,000 acres are destroyed every day. And with one in three Americans having some kind of chronic condition we are losing the very things we need to treat them. Nearly half of all prescription drugs and seventy percent of all cancer drugs are made with compounds found in plants and animals from around the world. And what about all the species we are losing that could have been possible cures or treatments?

For this and so many other reasons . . . it all matters.

That's why to teach a child, is to give hope to the future!

Such a frightening rate of loss this is... Somehow, we need to really keep working on healing the earth! Such a cute shot of this little neighbor learning about her environment.

Very wise Kim. You are so right-we must pass our passions on to the next generation.
Adorable neighbor, and great portrait of her

You need to blow that shot up for her mother!

I can't think of anything to add to this; you've said it all. We need to do better ... and we need to keep preachin' it, sista!

Always such wise words from you Kim, and what a perfect image to reflect the importance of passing on this love of earth to the children of the world.

You've said this so well, Kim! How can we hope for a better future for our children unless we teach them how to make it better? Love this shot of your neighbor, her sweet smile and the knot in the snake! I, too, will be sorry to see this month end. It has been such a celebration of our beautiful Earth!

What a wonderful shot of that little girl -- so natural. Your message is so important -- I just wish more people would get onboard because we are all in it together, we all share Mother Earth.
