Breaking News...

by Linda

Have you noticed that news programs usually start with the line "Breaking News" or "This just in" ?
It seems like everyday the local and national news begins with these words. Words that are supposed to make you pay attention. So I pay attention and they say something like 'we have just gotten what could be the last conversation Prince had before he was found dead in the elevator with prescription drugs in his pocket, stay tuned.'

SMH

How did we get here? When did what used to be reputable news outlets become tabloid journalism? Do we really care about things like this? It's news to report when a famous person dies, it's gossip to report what people are saying and doing around that situation.

There have always been plenty of places to get gossip. Have you noticed that headlines on gossip sites and publications now resembles headlines on "reputable" news sites and publications?

It is a little frustrating to think that journalists feel I want this kind of reporting. That I enjoy knowing who's finger pointing and who's name calling. I have raised children and did not enjoy listening to that kind of nonsense from them. Now I hear it and read it almost daily from adults.

Why is the reporting always about bad things? It would be so nice to hear more about the good that is going on. It would be so nice to hear about accomplishments of other people. How about reporting about someone that has overcome something in their life and done something positive. They report about that sometimes. I know it happens more frequently than it is reported. It should be celebrated.

The way I see things, people are good. People do good things. People help each other and inspire each other. Things happen everyday that are inspiring and should be focused on.

The glass really is half full.

More attention to the good in this world would be so very welcome in what has become grim and dismal, tabloid worthy reporting.

No wonder soap operas are going off the air! We don't need to watch them anymore, we can just watch the evening news!

Breaking news...someone did/created/tried something really wonderful today!

This just in...it's a beautiful day!

I share your feelings here! I usually don't bother to watch. I think the old journalists such as Cronkite, Reasoner, Huntley and Brinkley are rolling in their graves at the farce of modern day "news".

This just in.....these photos are absolutely stunning!! I agree Linda, I wish we could hear more of the good out there. That's why I started a "happy journal" a year ago. Each night I must enter at least one good or happy thing that happened that day. Since searching for the happy in my days for so long now, I'm happy to announce that most evenings I am entering many happy things in my journal. Good is out there...we just need to be the ones to find it.

Wow Linda...beautiful photos! And you are so right on - that's why I rarely watch the news or go on Facebook. I just can't take the negativity in my life anymore. Glad to know I'm not the only one. xoxo

You've put into words what all of us have likely been thinking for a very long time. I do read papers, but I'm selective about what I read. I am on FB at least once a day but I delete those posts I don't want to see. My philosophy is: Life is too short to dwell on the negativity. You're so right, Linda - there is far more goodness out there than our minds can imagine or than our hearts can hold. And your photos - be still my heart! The perfect antidote for crappy news. A humble thanks, my friend.

You've hit the nail on the head! Exactly why I don't watch the news, listen to it or read it on Facebook. So much bad stuff. Why can't they talk about all the good stuff out there? And this just in, your photos are stunningly gorgeous, the perfect antidote for any bad news!

Oh I so agree. That is the reason I never watch the news anymore. There is a lot of good in this world not considered newsworthy, we need to celebrate the good and the joyfilled.

You are so right! I haven't watched the news in a very long time and it's because it has become nothing but reporting on such ridiculous things! It's just not worth wasting my time listening to their nonsense. I don't know about where you live, but here the reporters don't do much besides ask dumb questions and giggle! I don't get much news on my FB page, but then I don't have very many friends and they don't usually share those type posts. I would love to hear stories of good things that people do and good things that happen. There is good out there!

I'm late reading this but oh how true, how true. We all need to take in goodness, to read about it, to see it, to share the "news" of it. Great post, Linda, great post.
