Your Little Corner of the World

It always amazes me how different this time of year is for different parts of the country (and the world). Some places are enjoying the crisp autumn air and changing leaves . . .

while in other parts of the world, there is already a blanket of snow on the ground . . .

Here in the desert, our highs are still in the 80s and we are coming out of our summer "hibernation". While many of you enjoy the outdoors in the summer months and hunker down at home in the winter, things are pretty much the opposite where I live. This time of year we begin to enjoy the outdoors again with dinner on the patio, planting fall flowers to replace the ones that have burned up in the summer heat, and getting out for a walk to enjoy the cooler temperatures ("cooler" being a relative term when the summer highs have been near 110). It's a  place where flowers, pumpkins and bare feet all exist at the same time!

It is hard for me to imagine living where snow covers the ground and shoveling the driveway is a regular chore. I'm sure it's equally hard for many people to imagine being barefoot in November! But that is what I love about this wonderful thing called the internet. We can share our worlds with each other and get a picture of what it might be like to live in different parts of the world just by seeing the photos that are posted. We have FOL followers from all over the world, with as many different types of climate as you can count. Thank you all for sharing your little corners of the world with us.

And a big thank you and a hug to Leanne Strilchuk and Sherry Galley for allowing me to use their photos to illustrate my post. You can see more of their photos in the FOL Flickr gallery and you can visit Sherry's blog (link above) to see her blog post about her fall photo.

With our new November theme of "traditions", show us some of the weather-related traditions that you have in your part of the world by posting your photos in our Flickr pool.  If you tag your photo with the word "traditions", it might just be selected for our In Focus spotlight!

Yes, I too love that about the web, and that the many places I may never get to, I can "see" through friends and their adventures! Wonderful post!! ....and I have to admit, growing up in the midwest, I DO NOT miss snow ( maybe only to photograph it) and love being barefoot in November too!! xo

Yes, I agree that having this wonderful world of blogging, flickr, our big FOL family, and the internet we can see and enjoy all parts of this great world of ours. Great idea for your post today, Terri. Lovin' those toes.

One of my greatest pleasures as I travel my internet communities is seeing the geographic and cultural diversity within these groups. I love seeing how other people live, what kind of weather they have, what customs they have. I guess you could say I'm a keyboard traveler. Thanks, Terri, for reminding us to savor these lovely differences in our lives and homes.

Well, right at this moment I'm enjoying this beautiful November in Arizona... quite unreal, actually. But soon we'll be back to the land of snow and ice. The upside of that for us Northerners is that we start dreaming about Christmas... Loved seeing all your photos!

Even in Utah we have already had snow, rain and now today a 70 degree lovely day. I love the variety that we enjoy. There's a saying "if you dont like the weather, just wait a minute" :)

Smiling a little sheepishly here but that salad was the one they served us for lunch at Oasis! The weather in Palm Springs is almost exactly like what we have here, so I figured it qualified. It was yummy!

And I love seeing your wonderful beach images! I feel like I've been on a little mini vacation to the ocean.

Thanks, Deanna. Yeah, those are my Oasis toes which are a little the worse for wear but I think our sandal days are about to come to an end -- 90 here today and 60 by Saturday. What happened to fall?

Love that too! It always amazes me how we can be so far flung across the country and world and it's as if we are sitting in the same room sometimes. Gotta love that!

Hi Barb! So glad you're enjoying a bit of warmth before returning to your winter weather. Barbara Hurst told me you'll be back after the first of the year and we really need to plan a day to get together. Would love that!

You're right, weather anywhere can be all over the place -- cold one day and warm the next -- but I would really like to have a little "nice" between the "hot" and the "cold"!

We never know what is going to happen around Buffalo, NY. We are known for our snow storms and cold weather but you can drive a few miles down the road and it could be a beautiful sunny day.

Happy to be part of this wonderful post. I, too, love seeing what different parts of North America and even the world look like at different times of the year by enjoying blog posts. My favorite season is fall, but I'm no big fan of winter, so I'll be avoiding it again this year by taking to the water in the sailboat...I should have a whole different view of the world then. In the meantime, I'll keep enjoying your vistas vicariously.

Thanks again for contributing your beautiful fall photo to this post, Sherry! Don't blame you about wanting to escape the cold winter weather. Be sure to share some of your photos from your sailboat! I'm sure we'll all be jealous!

Such wonderful photos! I really enjoy seeing the beautiful fall shots. I must admit though I am happy I no longer have to shovel snow!

great post Terri...I look at all of your "warm" photos and oh how I hope to be there in open toed shoes instead of boots. It is so nice to see all variety in the group!

It is fun to watch the seasons spread across the country! I can enjoy them before and after they have gone from my area! I do love pictures of snow! But since I am not a fan of cold weather and snow is an anomaly here, I can enjoy the pictures from others! We really are lucky to know and be connected to so many people in so many different places!

Thanks again, Leanne, for allowing me to use your gorgeous snow photo for this post. We are finally going to get some "winter" weather and are dropping down to the 60s this weekend! Pulling out my jeans and sweaters!

Would love to be able to visit some snow just for the purpose of taking photos but like you I'm not a fan of the cold either. So lucky we have people from all over to share their snow with us via the internet. I can sit here in my bare feet and enjoy!
