Moody Morning

by Leigh

It's been raining here in Oklahoma….for awhile now…..raining buckets….raining cats and dogs….it's never-ending….flood warnings….tornado warnings.   In all seriousness…it's getting really old.  I'm thankful we are no longer in a five year drought, but all the lakes are above 100% capacity and there is so much devastation from the flooding.  Enough is enough!  I'm starting to feel severely deficient in my vitamin d levels.

As you can imagine we haven't seen the sun in quite awhile and people are starting to get moody.  Ok, well…I am getting moody!  I have ventured out a couple times between torrential downpours to get some shots and they all reflect my grouchy mood.  Photography is an extension of ourselves and sometimes we use it to get us out of a certain mood, but other times it is a reflection of our current emotional state.  So I find my colors to be very saturated and somewhat dark thanks to the overcast days.  It is more of a challenge to find something to shoot since normally I am attracted to bright colors and cheerful flowers.

Photos tell a story and often times that is the story of what the photographer is experiencing at that moment in time.  So while the rain continues to fall I will keep on keeping on and shoot what I feel and see.  In the meantime…does anyone have an ark I can borrow?

Gosh, Leigh. You know I never thought about it this way but it's so true. Actually, I never thought about it because I just shut down. When I'm sad, grumpy, not well, I tend not to shoot at all. And that does absolutely no good, does it? You may have been grumpy but your art is still spectacular. I love these moody shots! Our art should be a reflection of our lives and these photos do reflect where you were at that moment in time.

Well at least now we have had a few days of sunshine, and now the mosquitoes are out in full force. The river by our cabin is very high and the lake we love in OK is so full you can hardly get in there . Moderation would be nice. I love your shots

We have had a lot of rain this spring but NOTHING like what you have had! Being a desert girl, I am so used to sunshine day in and day out that a couple of days of rain really brings me down. And like Dotti said, I tend to not shoot at all during those times, whether it's the weather or something else that is making me grumpy. Glad that is not the case for you because you have captured some beautiful shots on your "moody morning". Sorry, I don't have an ark but I'll send some sunny thoughts your way and wishes that your weather will turn around soon.

That last photo is amazing -- such a beautiful composition, color, light, focus, everything. I wish you some sunshine in the very near future! Meanwhile, a little supplemental vitamin D might not go amiss.......

Gorgeous photos Leigh. I'm sorry you've had so much rain, but your rainy mood has captured such beauty.
