I Want to Learn From Trees

by Deanna

It appears that everyone is trying to find their WORD for the year....to identify with, to aspire to, or to be like.  As I was reading other blogs the other day I came upon one that struck a chord with me. Adrienne had written about trees.  Now usually when you pick a word for the year it ordinarily doesn't relate to an object.  Such words as believe, reach, simplify, be, open, yes, hope seem to be words that many choose, not something as animate as a tree.  But when you read her words I think you will understand why I was so taken by the simplicity and honesty in her affirmation.

I want to learn from the TREES
I want to nourish my roots.
Nourish the deepest, most essential parts of myself.
Spiritually, emotionally and physically.

I want to go out on some limbs.
I want to bloom where I'm planted.
I want to weather the seasons.
I want to provide a nesting place for those I love.
I want to bend without breaking.
I want to learn from the TREES.

Thank you, Adrienne for these delightful words.  You can find Adrienne and her insightful words and works at My Memory Art.  She also hosts 2 memes a week, Black and White Wednesdays and Six Word Fridays.  You might want to join in the fun.  Inspirational words by Adrienne, photos by me....

That is such a great idea the idea of using nature to guide you through the year is a great one.

Oh, Deanna - thanks! This is so encouraging to me! I hope you find as much joy from spending a "year with the trees" as I did! That photo of the bench under that gorgeous tree is my idea of the perfect spot to spend an afternoon! Just started snowing here...might have to bundle up and go wandering!

Yes, I saw her post, and it was so good and I loved watching her "trees" through instagram last year. I love your waterlogue tree, and the tree with the bench....aaahhhhh!

Wow Deanna - You and Adrienne just hit the nail right on the head for me! I have really be stumbling on my word search this year - nothing has felt right. This hit me right bewtween the eyes - may I piggy-back you? I want to do trees too! Nature has always been my solace and I did so many boats last year, that my trees have faded away. They really are an inspiration to me - so this will be perfect!
Also want to say that the top shot is really great! A framer for sure!

The analogy is wonderful and your images illustrate it so well. We can all learn from trees.

We can always learn from trees and if your photos are any indication, you are going to ace your word this year.

Fabulous post Deanna. I'm in love with everything tree. I'm not a tree hugger however. your first edit is my style. Love that second one too.

Wonderful words indeed and those are fabulous tree shots. I think of the song We Shall Not Be Moved by the Seekers which mentions being like a tree standing by the waterside.
