Thanksgiving, holiday open houses, gingerbread house parties, tree decorating get togethers, Hanukkah, Christmas, etc.. Just imagine all the photo opportunities! It's that time of year to get together with friends and family to carry on time honored traditions or perhaps create some new ones. Whatever the occasion I know that cameras will be out and ready to shoot at a moments notice!
Instead of the usual family photos, you know what I'm talking about….arranging everyone….making sure all faces are in focus and all eyes are open….how about trying something different for a change. Look for the in-between moments. Those precious times when your kids aren't cringing…"not another photo mom!" and grandma isn't repeatedly saying "say cheese everyone". Those times when dad isn't yelling "hold your sister's hand NOW and smile!". Family photos don't have to be stressful. They can be fun and unexpected and creative.
Those in-between moments are the realest of real. The glimpses into the true relationships of people. Whether it be two sisters expressing their funky style with donut socks and colorful converse or a grandmother swinging her grandsons on the backyard hammock or maybe a friend whose smile and Hello necklace are her trademark. Those are the photos that make my heart skip a beat.
We are photographers and that means we don't just capture the big events, but we tell the story.
Sometimes the little stories...the ones that might seem insignificant are the ones that are most easily forgotten. Those are the times to capture so this holiday season be the story teller in your family.
