Who's There?

Do you know what a "lurker" is? I'm a lurker, I'll confess. And there's a good chance you are as
well. A lurker is someone who reads a favorite blog (or blogs) almost every day but never stops to say "hello". Yes, that's right! A lurker never leaves a comment in the comment section. I've done it countless times and I'll bet you have, too.

According to Wikipedia:

The 1% rule states that the number of people who create content on the Internet represents approximately 1% (or less) of the people actually viewing the content (for example, for every person who posts on a forum, generally about 99 other people are viewing that forum but not posting). The term [lurking] was coined by authors and bloggers Ben McConnell and Jackie Huba.
In light of that, I, Dotti Rinehart, now declare Monday, May 21, to be FOL De-Lurking Day.

The photographers/writers here at Focusing on Life love sharing our photographs and stories with you, we love seeing your wonderful images on our FOL Flickr gallery. But today, we'd like to know a little bit about "who" you are. That's right! We want FOL to be the kind of place "where everybody knows your name". (Call out to Cheers fans!!)

Just a friendly "hi" is all it will take to keep us happy but if you're inclined to chat a bit, that will make us deliriously happy. So come on. How about it? We know you're there ... we just want you to say "hi".

(And when you're done commenting, pop over to Flickr with a beautiful sky photo. Who knows? Your photo might be the next Photo of the Week.)

I am so guilty of this! A lot of times it's because I'm reading blogs on my iphone and it can be a pain to try and leave comments. Then I forget about going back to comment when I have access to my laptop. Perfect photo Dotti for your post! She is too cute!

Hello and good morning to you girls! Dotti, I love this piture of your granddaughter. She has the most gorgeous eyes. If this is confessional day, I'll add that I'm a lurker sometimes! I try to comment regularly on my favorite blogs, this is one of those blogs!! Your stastics are very interesting. I can see the numbers and know that my blog has been read, but not many comment. It certainly makes me appreciate those who do regularly take a few moments to comment! I've always felt like if I like a blog enough to follow it, I should at least leave a comment every once in a while! It's like passing by and waving to a neighbor or friend! I'm hoping everyone's Monday is great!!

We're all guilty! Cathy - I'm on lunch hour (lunch 10 minutes is more likely around here!) I'm coming right over to say hi!

I love that you paint such a fun picture! It's true waving to a neighbor is as good as stopping to visit oft times. But you always have such a bright spirit about you that we just want MORE :)

Dotti,
YOu are soooo right what a great invitation. Too often I read and move on. I will be better at leaving a comment.

If my silly computer will let me. Who knows these days!

Hugs

Hello, Hola, Salut, Guten Tag, Shalom! ; ) How's that? lol

I like to leave comments, because comments are for me like catnip to a cat! And it's always nice to know that people "see" you - gives them even more motivation and inspiration. Happy, happy Monday everyone!

I confess, I lurk! Like Leigh, I'm often on my phone and like now I'm test driving my daughters iPad. It only takes a minute, and it's easiest to do right after I read a post. If I wait, sometimes I don't get back to it.
Great post, Dotti! And adorable picture!

xo,
Linda

hi dottie. what a nice invitation to your readers. i've been enjoying this blog for a while - partly for the beautiful and inspiring photographs and partly because i have enjoyed getting to "know" alot of the contributors from the picture classes i took a BPC. such a great community of ladies and great information for me on my journey in photography. :) so very appreciated!

I know just how you feel. I put your lurker comment on my blog and asked for comments. I have a counter and seem to get a lot of people looking whom I know nothing about. So far, no one has commented. Come on over season-to-season.blogspot.com I look at your blog almost daily..I have you at the side of mine so I can keep up with all your adventures. Your photography drew me to you. I've been striving to become better with my photos and just reading about the things that you do helps. Just a little about me...retired teacher for eleven years, live in Bradford..western Pennsylvania, love reading, blogging, photography, travel. Peggy from PA

I, too, am guilty! I even ready your post yesterday, but got distracted, and now a day later, I'm posting my comment! I love the idea of officially declaring a "de-lurking" day! You rock!
