Let's Decorate For Fall

Do you bring out decorations for each season or holiday?  It has been recorded that Fall and Halloween is the 2nd most decorated holiday after Christmas.  Since I have no young children at home any longer nor do I throw a Halloween party, my home tends to run toward the Fall and Thanksgiving decor instead of the Halloween ghosts and goblins and witches that are lining the shelves of many decorator shops, and certainly Hobby Lobby and Michaels.  I was really tempted to buy one of those decorated witches hats recently but restrained myself.

This year I managed to haul the 2 large rubber bins up from the basement and begin the transfer of the everyday trinkets to my collection of Fall decor.  I had everything in place before October 1st, which is a record for me.  Last year it was November before I even began to think about Fall.  Maybe it was the hot and oh so dry summer this year that warranted my early change, wanting to put summer away and welcome the cooler and colorful Fall.

So instead of trying to come up with something meaningful to say today, I thought I would just do a "show" and very little "tell."

The front window....

The kitchen window... a miniature wheelbarrow filled with teeny tiny scented pumpkins.

And everything in between....more of those scented pumpkins fill one of my tea cups for Fall.

I purchased the mini pumpkins for 50 cents a piece, gathered pine cones from across the street and added a couple of candles that I purchased at Kohl's for 40% off and another coupon for another 15% off...they practically owed me money.

I like pilgrim families, I have one in the entrance hall....

and another one in the dining room.....

I copied this wonderful litany of Fall words from Pinterest....printed it and placed it in a pretty frame (Michael's with a 40% off coupon).  I love it.

Well, there you have it....a few of my Fall decorations which I am going to enjoy until after Thanksgiving when the season of Christmas will begin.  But right now, take time to enjoy all the sights, the sounds, the aromas, the loveliness that is Fall.

And fyi, I processed all my images with an action from Florabella called Vintage Wine.  I thought it gave them a Fall look...

Please don't forget to join our Flickr group with your images of Light and Shadows, our theme for the month of October.

"There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October."  ~  Nathaniel Hawthorne

Until next time.....

Oh Deanna, you brighten the day. I laughed so hard at the "they almost owed me money" that I snorted my tea up my nose. Like a neti pot experience but think Earl Grey with milk. So, I saved money on a neti pot (thanks!!!). You are a good shopper. You create a warm and beautiful and inviting home. Your huge heart shines in every shot. Enjoy the weekend.

love, love all your vignettes and your post-processing. cool treatment that totally feels like fall. i too tend to decorate "fall" rather than "halloween" with the exception of a giant blow up that i put out for all the cute little trick-or-treaters. :) thanks for sharing these bits of your lovely home. you've now inspired me to drag my tubs of fall decorations out of the basement. have a wonderful weekend. love, kelly

Same as Kelly said, above. You've inspired me to get up in the attic and bring my Fall things down. I don't decorate for Halloween, much to the dismay of my 9 yr old. I've just never gotten into Halloween that much. But fall, yes fall, I love this season and do decorate for that. Your home looks so warm, so cozy and inviting. Thank you for sharing a glimpse inside. Happy Fall.

Yes ... warm and inviting as well as inspirational. You do inspire me with your posts here and at Snippets (Deanna's personal blog). I'm so glad you shared this one here. I gave most of my cute little Halloween decorations to my daughter when my granddaughter was born, keeping just a few things for the front door. But I love to put fall touches all around the house and I have slowly begun to do so. You might just be the impetus I need to get moving a little faster ... as Linda reminded us yesterday ... Christmas will be here before we know it!

Oh, yes, Deanna, you have inspired us all with this post! Love getting to peek into your beautiful home and see all of your fall decorations. Since we really don't have much fall here, decorating for it brings a little fall into our lives. It's still in the 90s so we can use all the fall we can get! When the boys were small, I had decorations for every holiday and then as they grew up, I began thinking, "Is it really worth it to haul all that stuff out only to put it back again in a few short weeks?" Well, you have shown us all that it is definitely worth it. Heading down to the basement as we speak and bringing up my fall decorations! Also heading to Pinterest to find the fall words you printed -- love that!

reading all the comments above I can simply say "ditto" and wow!

I think I could easily move right in! :)

Fall is the BEST season -- the perfect warm and fuzzy. I love soups and its perfect soup weather.

I love everyone of your photos and how you texturized them with the similar one really pulled them all together.

Hugs

I do a little fall decorating around the house. Nothing that can be reached or damaged by a 2 yo! Someday I'll be able to have more pretty things!
Your decorations are lovely and you photographed them so well. Any one of those would make a nice postcard!
Don't you just love Kohl's! The total just keeps getting lower and lower with all the coupons and things they have!

xo,
Linda

I love to decorate for Fall too. Your post has inspired me to add a bit more around the house. I've had photo frame that I've wanted to find a photo for, but your idea has sparked some thoughts for me! Love your post and those mini pumpkins! Just to die for!
