Are you epicurious?

Have you ever thought about why there is so much food this time of year?  All the Holiday Celebrations will be over loaded with tempting things!  A feast for the eyes as well as the palate!

Of course we need to eat but there is more to the story, it is much more that just a requirement for survival.  It is a symbol of hospitality, social status and it has religious and cultural significance.

Are you always on the lookout for the next great recipe that will make your diners swoon?  Have you found the perfect Holiday drink yet?  Do you pin every beautiful recipe you see on Pinterest?  Are you epicurious?

Urban Dictionary defines epicurious as-
"A person who lives life in the constant pursuit of great food, drink, debauchery and open-minded adventure."

I like that. (except maybe for the debauchery part!)  Let's be epicurious! (but not debaucherous!)

I have to admit to answering "yes" to all the above questions.  I do enjoy cooking.  Real cooking, not necessarily the day to day type.  I enjoy creating palate pleasing, healthy food that looks as good as it tastes.  It's the creative process that I like, the selection of ingredients, the blending of tastes and textures that ultimately conclude in some sort of dish that I can offer to others.

I also enjoy eating and I like to photograph food.  I have been known to re-arrange a table in order to get the food positioned for a shot, move water glasses, napkins or whatever is lurking in the background.  My dining companions have become used to this and now lean out of the shot while continuing with their conversations.

This time of year there is plenty of opportunity to take pictures of lovely food.

If you also enjoy photographing food, let me give you this one tip-lighting is everything.

Nothing looks worse than good food in bad light.  If the light's not good, use your flash and bounce it off the ceiling.  If the light's not good and you don't want to use your flash, forget about it.  Just wait for another opportunity.

Of course you can still eat the food!

Unless someone beat you to it!

I hope you are enjoying the season!  Be sure to check out the flick group for the perfect recipe!  Add yours too along with a picture or two!

I think my hubby and I balance out the definition of an epicurious...he is always on a constant pursuit of food and I of adventure! We have even driven 2 hours away to try barbeque ranked as one of the best in Texas and we stop along the way so I can shoot things with my camera...it's a win, win! lol Love that quote, in fact I'll have a piece of that wonderful cake please!! : )

Linda, you need to be shooting for a food magazine! These are beautiful! I'm with you on the day-to-day cooking but I do love to cook for company and around the holidays. I'm always reading the latest holiday recipe magazine and deciding what to try. Yes, food is very much a part of our holiday celebrations -- then come January, it's time to go back to sensible eating! I plan to enjoy this month while it lasts!

Yummy pictures ... really! :-D I love getting ready for our holiday meals but everyday cooking doesn't light my fire. I used to scour for new recipes but now often use tried and true recipes because my family requests them. Truth be known ... I'd much rather be playing with my camera than my stove. But I do love to eat good food! I may have to come visit you, Linda!

I love good food photography and yours is definitely good....looks good enough to eat, and that is the purpose, right?? I recently bought a book on food photography, but haven't studied it yet...I always seem to eat my subjects before I have a chance to take it's photo.
