With our focus this month being
on travel, it got me thinking. Photography is a skill, an art and a hobby that
goes hand in hand with travel. For some it’s the sole motivation to travel, for
others it’s a means to record memories of a meaningful experience or simply a
way to share their encounters.
I have always loved traveling but these days it’s the desire to photograph different parts of the country (and the world) that spurs my desire to travel. For some years I have had a “bucket list” of places I would like to go – some of which I have been lucky enough to get to and others I’m still hoping to see someday.
I have always loved traveling but these days it’s the desire to photograph different parts of the country (and the world) that spurs my desire to travel. For some years I have had a “bucket list” of places I would like to go – some of which I have been lucky enough to get to and others I’m still hoping to see someday.
As you can see
from the collage above, some of the places I’d like to travel to are realistic
and some . . . not so much. Antelope Canyon is right in my home state and I
have plans to visit Chicago this summer. But I doubt I’ll ever go on an African
safari. And the others? Who knows?
I have managed to
visit some of the places that were on my list, like:
Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, CA |
Bridge of Sighs, Venice, Italy |
Land's End, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico |
Pulling out
these photos to share here brought back all the wonderful travel memories,
making me want to sit down and plan my next trip!
So what’s on
your photographic “bucket list”? Have you been able to visit some of them?
Share with us in the comments some places you’ve always wanted to travel and if
there are some places you’ve checked off your list, share photos of those
places in the Flickr gallery so we can all go on a virtual trip with you. Maybe
you’ll give us some ideas of places we can add to our lists!

Gorgeous shots ! and it is interesting to want to go to these places to photograph them! So amazing of a motivation, and it is the big motivator for me also to return to italy! Isn't it incredible what photography can do for you!!!
I would have to say that there are so many places just here in the US that I have not seen, so so many. I have never been to the West or East coast, well except for Florida. Would love to see the Grand Canyon and oh my whale watching is on that list....But on the top of my list is England...I have some incredible family roots from there and would love to be able to document with my camera photos to go along with all of it. I too have also always wanted to go to Africa, but the next best thing I guess was pretending I was on safari standing on the two front seats out of the top of our van while we drove through Arbuckle Wilderness in OK - a wildlife refuge - and dodged Ostrich and had giraffes eating out of my hands. That may be the closest thing to a safari that I get. Oh, yes and Australia to visit the Australia zoo...
Beautiful photos! Like Kim, there is so much of the US that I want to see! Of course I would love to go to Italy! Scotland and Ireland and France are on the list too! Someday!
One of the first things I think of when I know I'm going to be traveling is all of the photographic opportunities waiting for me! Some of the places on your list are the same as mine. Like you said, some doable, some, not so much. The great thing about our country is that we don't have to travel far to see very different sites, which makes traveling even more doable. (I sure wish I'd known about Antelope Canyon when I visited Arizona a few years ago. Heck, I even camped in Page with my family when I was a kid and we didn't visit it then either. :( )
wow, great shots. i would love to see the world. overseas. CA. Washington state. Alaska, Canada. tons of places. my bucket overflows ... ( :
On my phone so brief today. Getting ready this afternoon to check off a bucket list item: whale watching in Kauai.
Your images are very nice. My tip top of my bucket list is to meet w/ my life sisters and visit and go exploring... but then right after that is ITALY... ummm i dream of that.
Great inspiration as always!
Ahhh, just lovely. Like you I have been fortunate enough to do a bit of travel in my past, but of course more on my bucket list to check off such as Tuscany, and Berlin, as well as many, many places in the good ole USA, including Phoenix, AZ - which I'm going to do in April!!!!
I've already been to many wonderful places, some with a camera, some without. Very lucky. But Iceland has always been a dream of mine and having seen some of the amazing images that come from there, I can only hope that my photography is up to it!
oh what a great idea! I can't wait to check out all the pics in the Flickr group!
i have to confess that i am a bit of a homebody but my husband is the traveller in our family. and because of him we have had the opportunity to visit some amazing places such as australia, hawaii, st. john, rome, florence. one day we hope to travel to europe just the two of us and.
i have to say, after days of dreary cold weather i'm up for a trip to the beach. :)
what a great bucket list!! Can I come with you?? I think I may have to add some of these to my list too!
I love your photos! I have been to Heceta Head Lighthouse and I want to go back to the Oregon Coast now that I have a DSLR. I would also love to go to Vermont in the fall. Most of the places I want to see are right here in the States. We live in such a beautiful world!
Iceland. Newfoundland. Scotland. Places that end in 'land.' Ireland. England. Alaska. I am always too hot so I hanker for places with ice and big, open space.
