More Than One Way To See Things

by Leigh

I found some beautiful Zinnias at the farmers' market and I bought them.  I didn't buy them to give away or to decorate for a party.  I bought them for myself because they were pretty....and colorful....and cheerful.  Of course, I planned on taking some photos of them but I didn't plan on them becoming my photographic subject for the next week.  The photos began before I even left the parking lot.  When I got home I trimmed them and arranged them in a couple of vases.  Well, vase might be a stretch.  I put some in an old Starbucks frappacino bottle and others in an old mason jar.  Nothing fancy, but something to brighten up my kitchen and make me smile.

The next morning I did a little more flower arranging and decided their perfect spot would be the kitchen window.  That glorious light shining through the petals made me immediately grab my camera.

Later that day I thought that maybe just one single bloom would look pretty in the old Starbucks bottle turned vase.  Time to get the camera again.

And if one bloom looked pretty in the vase....I wondered what it would look like alone on the butcher block with the rest of the flowers in the background.  Yep, you guessed it, grabbed my camera again.

And just when I thought I had covered just about every angle to shoot these beautiful blooms...I decided to try one last perspective.  Iphone underneath with camera reversed.

I think everyone should buy flowers for themselves every month.  You don't need a special occasion to treat yourself so...go on....you deserve it!  You might just find some photographic inspiration in that little bouquet.  And if nothing else, it will put a smile on your face when you see them.  Maybe you will be like me and find a different way to see them each time you walk by.

These are lovely. I'm a big fan of buying flowers for myself and the light in these is gorgeous. Love the reused frapuccino bottle idea too - hadn't thought of that and will definitely be 'borrowing' this idea. :)

Flowers from the Farmer's Market are the best! So many things you can do with them. I love Zinnia's they photograph so well.

You know I'm a big fan of Trader Joe's flowers! These zinnias are stunning and the light you shot them in is glorious! Love the Frapacino bottle idea! I currently don't have any flowers in the house but you can bet I'm going to go get some today! Love this post -- so full of beauty and light.

Gorgeous photos! I love all the vignettes you photographed and really want to work on learning how to do this. Good reminder to buy more flowers for inside the house too. Thanks so much!

Yes! Let's hear it for TJ's and Farmer's Market flowers! During growing season, I rely on what's in our garden but just the other day, I bought a gerbera daisy at TJ's. As fall and winter draw near, my flower buying will increase. It's a bang for your buck, I say! And whatever it takes to make us happy is worth it. You surely got a bang for your buck with these beautiful zinnias, Leigh!

Love all your variations! I bought flowers yesterday. Red Gerbera for me. Purple ones for hubby's desk. He loves them. Almost as much as me.

well first of all these are beautiful photos. and also, zinnias are one of my all time favorite flowers. although i don't do it as often as i should, i love buying flowers for myself. there's just something about fresh flowers - even if they're just humble little zinnias - that add a little magic to everyday.
