A month long celebration...

by Kim

. . . of the color red. A color that on Friday, especially in flower speak, communicates love and passion and romance. After all, it is the color of the heart.

In Russian, it also means 'beautiful.'

Did you know that there at least 23 different shades of red crayons? I couldn't find my box, so I'm taking "Google's" word for it.

The word 'ruby' comes from the Latin word Rubens, meaning red. (They go well with diamonds, don't ya think?)

Red does not make a bull charge a Matador's cape...the darn things are color blind. It's actually the movement of the cape that irritates the bull. Or so they say...I won't be experimenting with that! ;)

Red wedding dresses are traditionally worn by Chinese brides for good luck.

On the United States Flag the red stripes stand for courage.

And I thought this was interesting . . . ever wonder why our barns are painted red? It was the most inexpensive and easiest to manufacture when it came to paint.

It turns out I don't have much in the way of red in my archives, I need to change that this month!!

Help us to paint the town flickr group with your interpretation of the meaning of red. And an early Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!

Love, Kim

Oh, this is going to be such a fun month with all the beautiful red! Your photo of the rose is just stunning with all that wonderful bokeh and how can you not love diamonds and rubies? Fun facts here too. Heading out today to find some red to post on Flickr!

{Rubies and} Diamonds are a girl's best friend ... I love the color red, In fact, I'm wearing a red sweater today, maybe I'll do a funky kind of self-portrait and post on our Flickr page today. The Flickr page will be stunning! And I agree with Terri ... that red rose is gorgeous. It's not always easy to get red to cooperate with our lenses but you did a great job.

Gorgeous red rose image!! Loved this post! The "tidbits" on why certain things are red or what the red stands for is awesome! I love to learn new things everyday! Happy clicking {red}!

Lovely reds! I realized other than the robe I'm wearing right now, I don't have much red in my home. I'll have to be keeping my eye out this week!
