Doors

by Deanna

Doors....how many times have we approached doors in our lives and been afraid of what is on the other side?  Or how many times have we bounded thru those portals hoping that what lies behind those closures will be a joy beyond our expectations?

Think about how many doors you have approached during your lifetime, how many choices you have made to either enter or to turn away.

Perhaps the door was your choice of career, or even before that maybe the doorway to higher learning.

And then that delicate doorway in choosing your spouse or partner.  That opening can lead to great happiness and a lifetime of love.  However, there are times that door closes too soon or perhaps should have been left unopened.  Opening these doors of your lifetime can be a perilous journey. While some bring great comfort and joy others may need to be closed.  Closing a door after a strained marriage or a hurtful relationship is a difficult decision, but there will be other doors to open after the aching subsides.

With my first child there was no planning or choices, the door opened and the happiness, along with the challenges of motherhood began.

I have opened countless doors in my life.  There has been great delight behind many, sadness in some, and some perhaps should have remained closed.  Life is a series of doorways and it is a choice to either enter or to turn away, walk thru with great anticipation or hesitate before crossing the threshold,  Be willing to let your heart lead you to welcome new doorways and flourish or stay stagnant and idle behind closed doors.  I encourage you to be open to new doorways, you never know what adventures lie beyond.

"In oneself lies the whole world and if you know how to look and learn, the door is there and the key is in your hand.  Nobody on earth can give you either the key or the door to open except yourself."  ~  Jiddu Krishnamurti

Very thoughtful and insightful post Deanna on doors. Love the concept and beautiful photography to go along with the post. Will miss you when you walk through that airplane door home. Safe travels.

Dear Deanna, this is one of my favorite posts-ever. I love the symbolism of the doors, and you expressed it beautifully. I love the encouragement in the message. And I love your photos of the barrio doors. I have always liked taking pictures of doors, and now I realize why. I will be printing this one out!

A beautiful post to share with us as you close the doorway to your wonderful visit in Arizona. Thank you so much for sharing some of the beauty of those special times. So happy you were able to make the journey. And ... when you open the door to your home, there will be two happy pups to greet you!

A wonderful post Deanna. First, gorgeous photos! My nephew is moving to Tucson for a new job and I can't wait to visit him ( and these doors :) So many doors in our lives, that is true. Sometimes I've resisted and have been delighted, sometimes I wish I had just walked away. But I'd rather open those doors and live then to sit and look at the doors and wonder. You have put this all into words so well - so well. Great post, great start to the day.

I am so loving all these doors....I must go to Arizona!! Yes, doors are tricky things. I've spent so much time trying to shake open doors not ready to be open that in the mean time I have missed the open ones before me.

Oh, Deanna, this is fabulous! Both your photos and your words. I love the way you took all those beautiful door shots and drew a comparison to all the doors we either choose to go through or turn away from in our lives. I agree with Judy, sometimes we wish we hadn't gone through some of the doors in our lives but taking that chance is better than walking away and never knowing. Who votes for an FOL trip to AZ next time? We can all capture these doors in our own way. During Deanna's visit here, it has been amazing to see how we all have captured things differently. One of the amazing things about photography! Thanks, dear Deanna, and safe travels today. Will be thinking about you in all that snow. It's supposed to be 90 here by the end of next week! Wish we could mix the two together!

Awesome post, Deanna. Your doors and life analogy is one I have never thought about like this before. Your words are touching and the pictures beautiful. How fun to see so many neat doors.

Beautiful post on doors, one of my favorite subjects to photograph. So true that we need to continue opening new doors and exploring what's behind them.

The doors of the southwest have always intrigued me..such beautiful variety, colors, and textures! Love your words about these doors. I find that so many times, I'm afraid to open the doors, but I'm getting better at it!

Amazing door post…and what beautiful doors they are!! There is a lot to be said about doors, when one closes yet another one opens. However, it can sometimes be an overwhelming decision based on the uncertainty of the outcome. I love to take pictures of doors…and windows, so mysterious as to what may lie beyond! Thanks so sharing!

What's behind the green door? Remember that radio program? Wonderful images and words, and one door reminds me of myself!

I've opened doors and had to close to many. Now I hestitate when I'm in front of one although I'm curious what's behind it. So I will pick up on your encouragement. Thank you for this wonderful post, your words touched my heart.

I am so thankful I opened the "Oasis door". I've been blessed with so many new friendships as a result.
