Go Green

by Judy

According to color expert, Kate Smith, green occupies more space in the spectrum visible to the human eye than most colors, and is second only to blue as a favorite color.

The color green soothes and relaxes (both mentally and physically).

The color green alleviates depression, nervousness, and anxiety.

Green offers a sense of renewal, self-control, and harmony.

Green is considered the color of peace.

Green represents life, vitality, nature, and of course, environmentalism.

There are many phrases that use the word 'green' in them.  Green with envy. Green under the gills. The wearin' of the green. The mighty greenback. The grass is always greener on the other side.  The green, green grass of home.  A green thumb. Going Green.

We're talking about 'going green' this month since April is Earth month, with Earth Day being celebrated in many countries on April 22nd.  (Some countries celebrate Earth Day at the time of the Spring Equinox).

How do you celebrate the earth by going green?  Does your community plan special events to bring attention to the day?  Every year my town's 'Green Team' organizes a community hike on one of the many trails in the highlands surrounding the Hudson River. In the past, there have been community clean-ups, Earth Day carnivals, and bulk recycling events.

Let this Earth Day be a reminder to all of us to help preserve the health of the natural world, and to help reduce the human impact on it.

Oh, all that green! I feel calm and relaxed already! Your photos really illustrate what a beautiful place our Earth is. I especially love that purple bud escaping from the green and the reflection in the last photo is just perfect! Thanks for sharing all that is beautiful about green!

Oh, my! All that gorgeous green, emerald green, dark green, light green! Beautiful. All the snow and rain we've had has come to some good this spring. Our grass is greener than green {and needs to be mowed every three days!} and it's all good! Your droplets are scrumptious. You really do live in a beautiful area. We celebrate Earth Day year round by driving hybrid cars, recycling and repurposing everything that we can. Walking from one end of the shopping center to the other instead of driving 500 yards, that kind of thing. If all this green doesn't inspire us to 'go green', I don't know what will. Great post, Judy!

i feel more calm and relaxed just after reading this beautiful post judy! wow...gorgeous photos. a reminder of how spectacular and precious our planet is. and as far as 'going green' and i believe that we can all do simple things to help out our planet. we're fortunate to have curbside recycling in our neighborhood and i try to mindful of reducing waste. finding less harmful ways of controlling pests in the yard. small things yes, but collectively i think they make a big impact. thanks for sharing all this gorgeous green and reminding us what we're fighting for. xoxo

Wow, so much incredible green and I'm in love that abstract reflection of the lily pads (?), gorgeous! One thing we have committed to doing is going green in the garden and lawn, and not by color but by going organic. No chemicals, and by going organic we will eventually not need to water nearly as much. Wonderful post Judy!
