Staying Connected...

by Susan

"Sometimes, reaching out and taking someone's hand is the beginning of a journey.  At other times, it is allowing another to take yours."

This month as we celebrate gratitude, one thing sits heavy on my mind... staying connected.  It seems that this time of year, more often than not, the majority of us feel that need and longing to reach out to loved ones... to connect with our family and friends, who are... so far away.

There are so many wonderful ways to stay connected with loved ones!  Pick up your phone, make a video call... or better yet... make a special video for your daughter, son, husband, wife, mom and dad... so they have it forever. There will be days when you will want a video at arms reach... days when you just need to feel present in their life... to feel connected.

“The world is so empty if one thinks only of mountains, rivers & cities; but to know someone who thinks & feels with us, & who, though distant, is close to us in spirit, this makes the earth for us an inhabited garden.”  Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Stay connected. Grab your phone. Make a video. Hit 'send'... and then maybe... just maybe... you'll get an instant video reply... an instant connection... to make that long-distance-gap just a little bit easier on your soul.

Staying connected is one of the great things about this digital age. We can call, text and email but being able to share photos and videos with those far from us is so precious, both the giving and receiving of them. And your little granddaughter is getting so big! How great that you get to see her in "action"! This is such a good reminder to all of us to make the effort to stay connected.

What an important message! It is so easy to connect digitally, yet many times we don't reach out. I love your idea of sending a video...think I'll do it today!

Such a good idea. I often think of this when I bump into an old friend from my kids' school days, and they tell me some of their news - someone is getting married, or having a baby, etc. I rush to the phone to tell my kid the news and - you guessed it - they already know more about it than I do - they have been following right along! I have a few very good friends from my high school days, but most slipped away when they moved away to college. Now it seems like everyone is in touch forever.

I love the uptop photo! Really awesome. And this message is so timely as we approach the holidays. I can remember as a young wife and mother getting the blues when Christmas rolled around and we were not always able to go visit my parents who were 700 miles away. Now we do have such great ways to connect that are 'almost' as good as being there.

This time of year especially we feel the need to connect with those we love. I must say, I've never sent a video hello, and I remember you telling me that you sent your grandaughte one while we were in Texas. I plan on surprising someone in my family, and hope I get one in return. And, I loved your creativity when you shot this photo with me! What a great shot for this post!
