Because It Never Gets Old

by Kelly

Every spring is the only spring — a perpetual astonishment. ~Ellis Peters

"Really Kelly?  Spring garden pictures?  That's the best you can do?"

This was the voice of my inner critic as I was planning for my post this week.

As I was out taking pictures for my post, it was just so lovely and beautiful outside.  And I had had such a crappy day. All I could think about was how happy and grateful I was for spring.  Truly, I was the poster child for Terri's post from yesterday.

"Can't you come up with something new? a Lightroom tutorial perhaps? Maybe some new insights on art?"

Just to be clear, my dilemma does not stem from outside pressure from Dotti or Terri...because their only request for blog content is that it comes from the heart.  No, my inner dialog was fueled by years of honing my two special skills in a) overthinking things and b) making things harder than they need to be.

I mean, so what if I take pictures of my daffodils every year?  Who cares if I have dozens of photos of my neighbors Bradford pear tree?  There's no photography police out there wagging a finger at me for not being original.  And even if there was, this is my photography.  This is me expressing my creative vision - capturing the joy and wonder in my ordinary life.  And right now, a big part of the joy in my life is celebrating spring's triumphant and glorious return.

Right now I am in complete amazement at how just a few weeks ago we were experiencing freezing temperatures and snow. And now this?

Yes indeed, spring is finally here.  And it just never, ever, ever gets old.

Thank you, as always, for letting me share it with you.

Love, Kelly

Your spring photos are beautiful, and seeing them is a great way to start my day - and you've definitely fulfilled Dotti and Terri's advice to write from the heart! There can never be too many photos capturing spring. Whenever spring finally decides to make its way to NY, I will be shooting spring all day long.

Oh yes, I would be doing the same thing if spring were here. Your post gives me hope. It will come, maybe in 2 weeks. Especially the hellebore.

Yes Kelly, I can totally relate to this! When I approach the garden with my camera...I say to myself "I just took this last year" why would it be any different? But I can only say that as much as I love to photography the sunset, no two are ever alike. So its safe to say that those beautiful blooms are never alike also. So keep on taking shots of whatever is tugging on your heart strings! Great post, and gorgeous photos....thanks for sharing!

I know exactly what you mean! Every spring I wonder if I really "need" to take any more photos of cactus in bloom. However, I think each year I go about it in a slightly different way with different skills that I have learned. And even if that weren't the case, I get such a thrill out of the beauty this time of year and I love photography so why not put the two together? I can never get enough of shooting flowers and seeing the shots of others and their individual springtime beauty. No, it never gets old!

We 'need' to take photos of whatever fills our souls and spring helps us do that. Personally, I think one can never have too many photos from spring in her Lightroom folders. You're a little bit ahead of us weatherwise but your post is a great reminder for me to keep my eyes open because pretty soon I'll see more spring blooms added to the profusion of daffodils in my yard right now.

I was just thinking this exact thing this morning as I walked around the neighborhood taking pictures of the same things I take pictures of every year! I thought "they're my pictures, they make me happy!" I have really enjoyed looking through the pictures I take year to year of the same things. It's fun to see how things have changed! And it's good to see how my photography has changed!

thank you all so much for the kind words! it's always so nice to know that I'm not the only one. :) and I agree - I enjoy looking back at the years' past seeing how my photography and post-processing has evolved. like you said susan...no two photos are ever the same. which is one of the many things I really love about photography. and Judy, Beverly, and Karen...I sure hope spring makes it way to your neck of the woods really soon! xoxox

Amen Sister! It never does. That nasty voice has been in my head this past week too and I'm just going to post my photos too. Thanks for the encouragement. I don't know why so many of us have been in the funk lately. I think mine finally broke this week. The evidence was that I cleaned the garage.
