It's Not Easy Being Green

by Dotti

My intentions were to post about some photography related subject today but the more I thought about our monthly theme, colors of the season, the more I heard it calling my name. Don’t you just love this theme? I know I do!

You see, I’m a color person. There aren’t many colors I just don’t like and in my photography, I find it very hard to desaturate the color in my photos or to make them black and white. I love color that pops off my computer screen or off the paper. Yes, color lights my world.

And Spring, well, Spring makes my pulse beat a little faster – I love seeing the earth come alive again with her colors. As I looked around me at all the fresh, new green growth in our landscape, I kept thinking about Kermit. Yes – that Kermit, Kermit the Frog.

*It's not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold-
or something much more colorful like that.

It's not easy being green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things.
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water-
or stars in the sky.

But green's the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like the ocean, or important like a mountain, or tall like a tree.

When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder? Why Wonder, I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be.

So – what about you? Does the Spring color make your heart beat a little faster? Is your camera your new best friend again? As you immerse yourself in the awakening of Spring, don’t overlook the color green. This time of year it’s brilliant in its own, understated but ever so beautiful way. And you might just find yourself humming, “It’s not easy being green …”

*Lyrics: Joe Raposo

Oh, what I'd give to SEE a little green. The white stuff continues to fall from the sky here, still in winter boots and parkas. It is such a treat to see this lush green here. That Kermit song is a favourite. Dreamy bokeh in that grass shot. It soothes me.

I can imagine living somewhere where green is absent all winter and being so happy to finally see it again! I'll bet I would be as excited to see green as I am all the other colors of spring. Your photos sure do demonstrate the beauty of green! And now, of course, I'll be humming Kermit's song all day!

oh what I would give for a little more green and a little less white around here! These greens are gorgeous and refreshing, as only spring green can be. I love how you paired these with that sweet song, an old favorite.

This is lovely! When I saw your title I immediately heard Kermit singing. About a month ago I googled Jim Henson-- he was such a talent and taught me and my children so many things about the simple things of life and GREEN is one of those simple Fantastic, FABULOUS colors that touch our hearts!

This post made me sigh and get a little tear in my eye... you captured beauty...beautifully! Hugs my friend!

Your photos showcase the beauty of green! I was just remarking to my dad as we drove down the highway at the many shades of green the trees have right now. Green is so soothing and restful and I need to pay more attention to it!
