Walkabout

by Kelly

walkabout :: noun ::  \ˈwȯ-kə-ˌbau̇t\

a short period of wandering bush life engaged in by an aborigine as an occasional interruption of regular work :: a walking and/or ritual journey

It’s become a bit of an evening ritual for me.

I grab my camera after dinner and set off for a little walkabout.

Sometimes Tripp comes along and sometimes I’ll take my dog, Daisy, but most of the time it’s just me and my camera.  And although I’ve got my camera with me, I’m not looking for anything in particular.  Just whatever happens to capture my attention….some pretty light…a little bit of magic.

I take a different route each time I go.  Some days I like to walk the neighborhood – take in all the pretty flowers in the front gardens.

Of course you never know what you’ll find when you go by Crazy Stuart’s house.

I guess I should mention here that his name isn’t really Stuart and he isn’t really crazy…I don’t know how we got started calling him that except that his yard is full of all kinds of Tchotchkes. In reality though, the owner of this house is a legitimate antiques dealer with a basement full of vintage treasures.  So it’s always fun to walk by and see if he’s added new yard decorations.

The other route I take most often is down to the walking trail.  I love the way the golden light comes through trees.  And since the trail is mostly left to grow wild, it almost feels like I’ve been transported to a tropical jungle.

I love listening to the sounds of the birds and hum of the locusts.  And don’t even get me started on the baby bunnies that live down there.

I spend the better part of my weekdays chained to a desk and a compute so it’s good for my soul to get out.  Even when it’s hot, it’s good to be outside and take these little walkabouts.

Thanks for coming along with me today.

Until next time,

Kelly

What a beautiful read and awesome photos. I LOVE Crazy Stuart's stuff!!! How cool is that? Thanks for the encouragement to walkabout. I totally need to do that more often and leave the computer ball/chain at home too!

What a lovely walkabout! Thanks for bringing me along. I wish I had a Crazy Stuart's within walking distance of my home. I really need to get back into a walkabout routine. Great photos, you sure captured beautiful light. My favorites are the one of the flowers and of Crazy Stuart's.

Just came back here to read comments and I find that my earlier comment has been deleted! I hate when that happens! Anyhow, that golden light that you capture so well just makes me swoon! Definitely magic! Right now it's just too hot for me but as soon as things cool down I want to start walking again. Such a great way to relax and find new things to capture.
