Little Things

by Linda

The plumbago that grows in my neighbors backyard finds a crack in the fence to send me a little bouquet of lovely blue flowers. This usually happens over the summer and I am always so happy when it happens. I will take a moment and admire it and then take another moment and photograph it.  It's a little thing that makes me smile.

OK, just had to share this little thing with you. It was discovered during a recent roadtrip. We stopped for gas and goodies (because roadtrips make me hungry, usually as soon as we pull out of the driveway) and I spotted this. The breadsticks are a waste of space that could be better served with more Nutella. Just put a little plastic spoon in there and I'm a happy camper! (pay no attention to the hideous number at the side of the container, it must be a lie!) Yes, Nutella makes me happy. (don't judge!)

But I digress.....

If I had seen this lovely sight, I would have stopped for a picture too. This photo that runmomrun66 shared in the Focusing on Life gallery on flickr makes me happy! The trumpet vine, twining up the iron fence begging humming birds to visit, the dark, dark black finials that go up and down and up and down, the umbrellas in the background, maybe shading tables set up for coffee or afternoon drinks, all set against the lovely painted bricks. (sigh)

This moment shared in the Focus on Phoneography gallery on flickr from cathysly makes me happy. I like the water with the sparkles in it and the sweet dog, ears perked, pulling on the lead, eagerly looking upstream at something, (squirrel?) ready to slosh through the stream! Makes me think of a lazy afternoon walk out to explore!

Sometimes, at the end of the day, it seems like everything happened in a whirlwind. So much seems to go unnoticed. Time goes by much too fast. It's like being on a roller coaster and I just want to get off.

It's amazing to watch children play. They exude such joy and happiness as they go about pretending or climbing or swinging. Sometimes when they play, they will stop and bend down and notice a bug or leaf or twig and it suddenly becomes the most amazing discovery.

It's a little thing, a simple thing, something that is usually overlooked but children take a moment to notice it. And you know what, the world doesn't stop, playtime doesn't end, they stop, notice, admire and sometimes stuff things into pockets, then continue with whatever they were doing. Stories of recent discoveries will follow. Stories that sometimes sound like magical fairytales.

It always makes my day a lot better when I take a moment to enjoy a little thing.

How about you? Let your inner child out! Take a minute and share a little thing! Stroll through the galleries, I bet you see something that will make you smile!

Oh, I think this is great. Hugely great. All you say and how you say it and the shots. Rocks. Rocks are my little thing. When we fish I often spend a lot of time looking at the rocks. I'll show them to you. Each one seems amazing to me. I can spend more time than you'd believe looking at them and touching them. Yes, this post rocks. A feel good post. Thank you so much for this start to the day.

oh, thank you, thank yo uso much for featuring my shot of the painted bricks and the kind, kind words you included with it. the town i took that is a really cool, funky little town here in arkansas, just full of little fun things to stop and notice.

water is my thing. waterfalls, bridges and everything associated with creeks and rivers. you have to drag me away, kicking and screaming the whole time. ; )

Love the post this morning! Makes me smile to see the flower that has made it's way through the fence. Love the other shots you've chosen as well. I'm always walking with my eyes to the ground, looking for little unusual things; rocks, mushrooms, lichen, and small wildflowers always grab my attention.

This is such an important reminder and so beautifully presented, Linda. Thank you! This is timely, too ... just as we enter the homeward trail of summer. Perfect!
