Five For Friday

by Stephanie

We’re going on a little fantasy trip today. Don’t worry, I promise it will be fun…..

If time and money were no object…..where would you and your camera take a trip?
And since this is five for Friday, what five places would you visit?

Here are mine:
  1. Europe. I know. It’s an entire continent. But with so many great places to take in, I can’t pick just one and I don’t want to use up all 5 of my picks, so I’m lumping the whole place into one trip. Plus if money and time are truly no object in this fantasy, I’d stay for a long time until I saw everything! I want to visit all the big cities and I want to see the countryside where I have to stop the car for crossing sheep. I want to walk on centuries old cobblestone streets and I want to see wash hanging from clotheslines, and I want to have coffee sitting at a streetside table at a quaint little restaurant.
  2. Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA. While I’ve been to Philly a few times in the past, I wasn’t there long enough to do any exploring, and I had no idea this place existed. At one time this place was the most famous and expensive prison in the world. And it housed several renowned criminals, such as Al Capone and "Slick Willie" Sutton. But it closed in 1971 and now it is falling apart and in a state of ruin. And for a mere $12 I could spend the day there photographing all its beauty!
  3. New York City. Street photography, pure and simple. People. Buildings. Architecture. Hustle and bustle. Central Park. Staten Island. The Freedom Tower. The city that never sleeps....and neither will I!
  4. San Francisco. Of course there's the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Ghirardelli Square and so much more, but I would use the city as a starting point for a tour around wine country and then a drive through the Redwood Forest.
  5. My local city. Money is definitely not a hindrance here, but time certainly is. It’s easy to get lost in my day to day life that I forget all that my local city has to offer. I live right between Dallas and Fort Worth and a quick 30 minute drive will get me to either place. I need to remind myself this need not be a fantasy trip!

I hope you enjoyed allowing your mind to wander a bit today! And maybe one day you can share with us the actual photos from your fantasy trip turned real!

Happy shooting!

I have read stuff on the Penitentiary, and that would definitely be on my to-do list. I want to go to Scotland and Ireland. I would go back to London and also the Normandy region of France. Maine in the fall. Italy would be nice too.

Oh my gosh, Stephie - time for a visit! My camera store goes to Eastern State at least 3 times a year - it's so common among photographers here that I haven't even bothered yet! And NYC IS my local city! But as you well know ....it's time that's the problem, no matter where you live!
As for me - Venice, Calgary/Banff, Scandinavian Fiords, and I want to ride the ice Train to the Winter Festival in Quebec! (I can't believe they are all cold destinations - never realized that! - stark beauty, I guess!)

I love italy, and could spend days and days and days there! Would also like to visit China where I have never been. Will have to think about the other 3. I want to go everywhere... does that count as one??? I do love traveling.

Five. Okay. Wolfville. I can drive there and do it, bonus! The railway yards in Halifax. Karen and I have shot there twice. I never tire of them. Peggy's Cove in winter. It's coming!!! Ireland if I could blink and be there as I am a lousy traveler. Scotland. Same as previous.
Thanks for this. I will get the three I can do on the fridge list.
Happy weekend, FOL women.

Oh,my gosh! I can only pick five? Soooo many places I would love to visit with my camera! I would love to go back to Italy, as the first time I was there was on a soccer trip with my son and, of course, I didn't get a lot of opportunity to go off on my own. Would also love to see Paris, Spain and especially Greece. As far as close to home, I want to get back down to Tucson to shoot the barrio doors again. I never tire of them. Fun little fantasy trip!

Oh yes! More money ant more time! I'll go to any of your 5! Japan is a place I would like to see. I have always had a secret wish to visit Southeast Asia-Viet Nam, Thailand somewhere over there. There is so much here in the US I would like to see. I'd also like to revisit the Grand Canyon, check out Utah's beauty, do more exploring and revisiting to New Mexico and trophy husband and I both dream of visiting Alaska and Hawaii! So much to see!

Only five? {Why do Terri and I always say the same thing?} We are planning a family trip to France and Italy in 2015. I also want to visit Great Britain and the Netherlands. Add Australia and New Zealand to my list. I want to go to Nova Scotia to visit my friend Pam and go to Peggy's Cove with her. Banff, yes. The Northwest US. I'd best stop now ...

Dear Dotti, We're doing Cape Breton and Wolfville and Peggy's Cove so you'd better call that three, I'm 3, not 1. lol.

Absolutely LOVE the heart shaped cloud Stephanie! As far as where I would want to go if money were no object…a voyage outside of this earth's atmosphere and take photos from waaaay above. As far as the other remaining 4…Grand Canyon, Napa, back to Big Sur, and well…just take a drive across the country and take as much in as possible. :)
