A Joyful Mess

by Kelly

Warning....the following blog post contains disturbing photographs...viewer discretion advised.

This, my friends, is the current state of my office.

In the words of my mother, it looks like a bomb has gone off...it is a complete disaster area.  If I was to throw in a wet towel on the floor, my mother would tell you that I have reverted back to my teenage years.

Let's just say I am well known for my messiness.  My husband even wrote a song for me {sung to the tune of 'Matchmaker' from Fiddler on the Roof}.

Messmaker, Messmaker, make me a mess...

In case you hadn't noticed, messiness becomes me.

But you know what?  It's all good.  I have learned to accept this about myself.  In fact, I have even started to embrace it.  Because the the thing is...these little projects of mine...

Well they bring me a whole lot of joy.

And nothing makes me happier than knowing that I am sharing my love, a little piece of myself, with every card and little craft project.

Just like Susan said yesterday, joy comes from within.  And for me, creating a little bit of mess brings me a whole lot of joy. So now that I've showed you mine...you show me yours!  Share with us in our Flickr pool all of your delightful, joyful, messy projects.

And finally, since I won't be here again until after Christmas, I wish you a joy-full, happy, merry (and/or messy) Christmas.

Love, Kelly

I tend to make messes too. It's how I work. Messy. And there have been the old damp towel on the floor thrown in for good measure. We must teach Fishboy that song. They could do a duet. When he is looking for something he'll say, "She could have put it anywhere..." Ha! And I could have. Bless you for all your kindness and warmth and humour, Kelly. We are so lucky to have you blogging. Merry Christmas. Merry, merry Christmas.

Love your post Kelly! Love that you 'embrace' the messiness…because through that messiness you are joyful…creating…at one with yourself…bringing joy to others…and on and on. Your photos are so inviting that I feel like I'm right-there-with-you…making cards…enjoying a glass of red…being joyful!

Ha! Your office looks absolutely pristine compared to mine right now! And I love it! Sometimes I think I could stay in here for days without leaving if I didn't have to eat and, well, other things. Creating definitely brings me joy too, especially at this time of year. Before I'm through with one project, I'm thinking up something else I want to do, and so the mess triples. That little sequin wreath is adorable! Yes, as Susan said, it would be wonderful to be able to be right there sharing the fun. I have a "messy" photo to post and will go do that right now!

I, for one, don't think it's possible to be 'neat' and 'creative' at the same time. My husband, who helps with the dishes, complains that I'm such a messy cook {which fortunately doesn't happen often!} but how can you cook and bake something worthwhile without making a mess? When he complains during next week's 'cookathon', I'm going to tell him to 'embrace the mess'. {How fun would it be for all of us to get together to make creative messes?}

Kelly, your messes look so artistic! How do you do that?

Haha! A joyful mess! It is such fun to make isn't it? But I must say my joyful messes are much messier than yours are! Happy Holidays Kelly!

Mess and clutter drives my husband crazy, so I try to keep it behind closed doors, but I too delight in a messy creative life.

I dare say, your office looks better than mine at the moment. It's a bit hard to walk through mine. I think it's turned into the dumping ground. Love your sequin card.

A fun post Kelly! I just wish my "messy area" looked that good. I'd be ashamed to photograph mine at the moment. I leave items out....for inspiration. HA! I agree with Dottie, I don't think one can be "neat" and "creative" at the same time! :)
