Springtime

by Linda

As I sit in front of the computer, pondering the content of this post about Springtime, it is cloudy and dreary, a little on the coolish side temperature wise and lightly raining. A far cry from the typical picture perfect world of clear, sunny skies and warm weather, but it is a beautiful day.

It's funny, but this day reminds me of a time when I was visiting a warm, sunny place where the sun always shines. Or at least as far as the buffet server was so quick to point out in a not so happy about it way. It was Palm Springs, California and many of my Life sisters were there. I was at the breakfast buffet table when someone remarked about the beautiful, sunny weather. The young man on the other side of the table sounded slightly exasperated as he quickly replied that is was "ALWAYS sunny, EVERY DAY the sun shines". A fact he seemed not too happy about. This made me laugh, and still does.

Why do we humans seem to never be satisfied with things? How could it be possible to be annoyed that the sun shines everyday?

I know, I know, there was probably something else on his mind that was bothering him and he took it out on sunshine. We all have trying times. No human is immune from pain and tragedy. If only that were possible, but to totally avoid the bad parts would be impossible and in their own way, these parts of our lives help to shape us. These times help us see other things in new ways.

Springtime is such a renewal. Nature is just shouting at us to look and pay attention to what is going on! It is such a joy of life that is just bursting out from the earth. The sky is glowing. The new growth and colors of the season are a feast for the eyes. Springtime is nature showing us that even after the harshest of winters, there is new life, new hope. Life is good. Just look around.

Each year, I eagerly await Spring. It is my favorite season. I will begin my vigil shortly after the last firework explodes on New Years eve. It can't come fast enough for me and when it does, I revel in it's beauty.

The way I see things- Spring is proof that no matter how hard things can get, there is always hope. Spring is proof that no matter how ugly things look, there is beauty all around us. Even the barest branches will bring fresh new growth, the sun will come out again after the rain. Spring is proof that no matter what happens, never give up.

Spring is proof that it is a blessing to open your eyes each morning, and draw in your breath and take in the beauty all around.

Even if the sun does shine EVERY day!

It does my heart good to see these photos as we brace for another snowstorm overnight. Spring is so late here that it will be a another month (at least) until things look at least similar to what I see in this post. I laughed re the sunny every day. I have often pondered (and more so lately) how we are affected by weather. I see it so clearly working in retail as I do. People's moods are DEFINITELY affected by weather. I also think about where we sit on the globe with latitude. It never occurred to me until recently someone told me that in Hawaii sunset only varies by about an hour throughout the course of the year. Here, the short days are very short and the long days of sun in summer are, well, pretty long. And further north, even more profound, this difference in the amount of time the sun stays up in the sky. This is a long comment. Happy Thursday, FOLers.

Beautiful photos of your spring! Sorry it was interrupted by a little rain but you're taking it well! :-) Being from Arizona where the sun shines almost "every day", I even get a little grumpy when it doesn't. I can only imagine what it must be like where it doesn't shine for long periods of time! It definitely affects people's moods. But even if the sun isn't shining, there is so much beauty at this time of year to see and enjoy and let's never take that for granted. Rain or shine, spring is amazing for all the reasons you stated. I'm heading out to enjoy the beautiful (and yes, sunny) spring day!

Such beautiful photos to usher in Spring! From what I've seen of yours and others' photos, Spring in Texas is doing a beautiful job this year - in spite of the rain. Of course, no rain, no lush flowers. I love your philosophy: No matter how tough things get, we need to remember that Spring will come again, bringing sunshine. One of my favorite quotes from Hal Borland (I haven't a clue who he is!): No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.
